Chief Glenn Hudson, the elected Chief of the Peguis First Nation, has been providing Manitoba’s largest First Nation community of over 13,000 members of Ojibwe and Cree decent with dynamic and progressive leadership since 2007.

Born and raised in the community of Peguis, he has been re-elected five times and currently stands as:

  • The Chair of the Treaty One Organization,
  • An Executive Member of the Southern Chiefs Organization, and
  • A Board Member of the Manitoba Indian Cultural Education Centre.

 

An experienced politician, adept at negotiating with the Public Sector, Chief Hudson’s strong, effective working relationships with local, provincial and federal government officials has led to the following benefits for Peguis First Nation:

Day School Claims

  • Funded the successful lobbying of Federal acceptance of day school claims

  • Launching $2 Billion claim for Selkirk Treaty of 1817
  • 100lbs of tobacco committed per year since 1817 to 2019 (202 years)

Negotiation of our Traditional Homelands – Selkirk and Treaty 1 Area

  • 15,000 acres in Selkirk area on our tradition St. Peters area

Education

  • Negotiated increases for Manitoba First Nations
  • Peguis education funding increased $2.4 million,the first time in 48 years we have had an increase in funding.

Elders

  • New Senior Centre (Peguis/Selkirk) for community Elders
  • 50 beds with up to level 4 services
  • $32 million project that created
  • 50 Fulltime jobs and
  • 120 new construction jobs
